Executive Director receives The Jefferson Award for Public Service

In 1972, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, U.S. Senator Robert Taft, Jr. and Sam Beard founded the American Institute for Public Service, a 501c3 public foundation, to establish a Nobel Prize for public and community service – The Jefferson Awards.

A program of the George P. Scotlan Youth and Family Center, Oakland Youth First introduces 21st century technology, math, science and engineering to inner-city youth. It is designed to connect at-risk with youth with air, land and sea experiences that motivate their desire to learn, excel and believe in themselves.

The George P. Scotlan Youth and Family Center has been an integral part of West Oakland since 1966. Initially operating from the historic DeFremery Park mansion, we recently moved to the Town Center and Courtyard at Acorn.
